IT ausbildung

I'm 22 years old, a EU citizen, and I want to learn German to B2 level. I'm planning to do an IT Ausbildung in Germany and move there. I have some questions: 1. How much is the salary during those 3 years and will it be enough to live decently? 2. When does the school term start and is it possible to be declined and wait for another year to apply? 3. What are the job options available after finishing the Ausbildung and what is the salary like in Germany? 4. I have the opportunity to take a course in my country and get an ISTQB certificate (as my main plan is to be a software tester). Is it possible to get a job with just the ISTQB and no prior experience in the field, instead of doing the Ausbildung?

1. No, you won't be able to have an apartment, go to parties, and take vacations with the money you make from school.

2. Schools usually don't decline you in September.

3. Try searching on Google.

4. I'm not sure what ISTQB is.

The estimated salary for an IT Ausbildung is between 860€ and 960€. This varies based on region, city, and type of job. You may need a job on the side for a decent living. You can usually apply in September, but it's best to go in expecting no answer. For experienced IT professionals, the salary is usually between 2,900€ and 3,500€. It is unlikely that the ISTQB certification will help you get a job in Germany, and it may not even be recognized here. It is recommended to do an Ausbildung in Germany instead.

I would like to know how much I would get paid if I do an IT apprenticeship in Germany and move there. Is the salary enough to provide a decent living?

Once you finish the apprenticeship, you can expect to make between 38K and 42K, depending on your skills and the company. If you are good, with a few years of experience you can make up to 50K, and some people make up to 70K after 10 years.

The salary for an Ausbildung depends on the city or company, and increases each year. Generally, it is between 800-1200€. It also depends on the state. It is possible to wait for a year to find a job, but it is not guaranteed. The type of Ausbildung (e.g. software development, network admin, configuring servers/end user devices, etc.) also affects salary. Switching fields to get a job is possible, but unlikely without experience, a B2 language level, and only one certificate.

It depends on the region you plan to move to, the size of your company and how you define a “decent” living. For reference, I had an apprenticeship in East Germany in a mid-sized business and I earned about 750, 800, and 850 euros (after taxes) in each of the three years. I usually lived in shared apartments, so my living costs were low (rent was around 250-300 euros). Prices for single bedroom apartments are usually higher. Living costs tend to be higher in bigger cities, but there are usually more and better-paid jobs. Some of my classmates had apprenticeships with Telekom, and they earned more than 1,000 euros (after taxes) in their third year.

School year typically begins in September, but you should apply earlier (May/June). It is also possible to start after the school year has begun (we had someone in my class who started in December). In my hometown, there was something called Speed-Dating for companies/apprentices organized by our local IHK. You can go to the event and apply for an apprenticeship “last minute.”

1. The market rate for living expenses is between 800-1300 euros, depending on where you want to live. 1300 euros may not be enough to live comfortably.
2. The school won't reject you, but you'll need to find an employer, which may be difficult.
3. There are different types of IT-Ausbildungen (Fachinformatiker). I have an application development (Anwendungsentwicklung) degree and work as a developer. Most people have a system integration (Systemintegration) degree; they install networks and IT hardware. Junior developers typically earn 3000 euros before taxes, but the market is tough right now. On the other hand, the coronavirus pandemic has been beneficial to hardware guys since more companies need remote workers and someone to set up the necessary IT equipment.
4. It's unlikely, as most job ads require a state-recognized degree. However, there are no regulations for IT, so if an employer wants to hire you, they can.

I earned 500€ in my first school year in Baden-Württemberg, which starts in September.

German

You won't be able to get a visa to do IT training in Germany. Visas are only available for fields that are less popular and don't have enough applicants from Germany or the European Union. IT is too popular to qualify.
