Pettersson und Findus

! I'm in love with the show Pettersson und Findus and just watched the movie Das Schönste Weihnachten Überhaupt, which is really charming. Unfortunately, I don't speak German and there are no subtitles. I've read that the books are in Swedish, so I think they are speaking German in the movie. How can I understand what's going on in the movie? I'm unable to spell the German words I'm hearing to use a translator, and guessing what's happening isn't very productive. Is there any way I can get a plot summary or other play-by-play sources/transcriptions? I'm curious to know why Findus is so 'upset' throughout the movie, why Pettersson is acting so awkwardly with the ice-fishing character, and what the relationship is between Pettersson and the woman who eats all his pastries. Thanks in advance!

They are Swedish but dubbed in German. They probably don't have subtitles since the target audience is German-speaking, not English-speaking.

Christmas is coming soon and Findus can't wait. Their little wooden house is covered in snow. Pettersson promises him the "most beautiful Christmas ever". They go to get a Christmas tree, but Pettersson refuses help from his neighbor Gustavsson. When they reach the faraway tree, Pettersson hurts his foot and they can't get the tree. He drags himself back home. The next day they should have gone shopping for the feast, but Findus is disappointed when Pettersson won't accept help.

Findus and Pettersson hide the wish list in an igloo, but nothing changes. Beda Andersson offers to have the Christmas party at his place, but Pettersson still refuses. Findus tries to get the Christmas party started with the help of Gustavsson's dog, but Findus falls into a hole for ice fishing and Gustavsson saves him just in time. Even then, Pettersson won't accept help. Pettersson makes a Christmas tree from an old roof batten and fir branches, and Findus gets skis and Pettersson gets a back scratch for presents. The feast that follows is disappointing, but Gustavsson and Beda come with their families and save Christmas.

Try using subtitles with the original Swedish version; you may have better luck.

I had all the books from 'Petterson und Findus' when I was a child. They come in German versions and are really beautiful, with lovely paintings. You can find them on eBay, eBay Kleinanzeigen or Thalia. Go get them all!

Pettson is a Swedish character/book series, but this specific movie is German. It's also available in an English-dubbed version, called "Pettson and Findus: The Best Christmas Ever". You can also read the books the movie is based on, like "Petsson får Julbesök" and "Tomtemaskinen". The English translations of these books would be "Findus at Christmas" and "Findus and the Christmas Tomte". You can probably find the e-books in a language you know. It's not clear how closely the movie follows the books, but it may make the movie easier to follow. In Sweden, Pettson is known as a "gubbe" - a term that is not just used to describe a man, but to describe Pettson specifically.

In Swedish, they are known as "Pettson and Findus".

I really enjoy watching movies even if I don't understand what's being said!

I could share some of my books from when I was a child.

about the feelings.

Last week, I watched a movie with my son. Findus was disappointed that Petterson refused to accept help until the very end. This caused a lot of their problems. There was also an icefisher neighbor who liked Petterson but couldn't show it, possibly due to not wanting to be too personal or not seeming "manly". The relationship between him and the woman in the movie was also unclear. There may be more information in the books about their feelings.

Merry Christmas! Have a joyful holiday! Frohe Weihnachten!
