There are 22 airports in Sri Lanka, with only 2 being international and the rest taking only domestic flights. Despite there being two, almost all airlines fly into Bandaranaike International Airport.
Bandaranaike International Airport (airport code CMB) at Katunayake, is the main International Airport in Sri Lanka located 30 kilometers north of the island's commercial capital and largest city, Colombo.
Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport is the second international airport. It’s placed in the deep south of the country close to the fast developing coastal town of Hambantota. This airport has been called "The World's Emptiest International Airport" due to its low number of flights despite the large size of the airport.
